Brighton and Hove Junior School Radinden Manor Road Hove BN3 6NH

Dear Parents and Students,
What a fantastic 2nd term here at the High School, it really was so scary moving after 20 years, but I can honestly say it’s the best thing that ever happened to Rox. I know we had a few teething problems at first, but now all the staff, myself included are so grateful for the amazing studios/gym we have. Both the RAD and ISTD examiners this time commented on how lucky we are to have these facilities, I think it is the high ceilings that make such a difference, plus the fact it’s so light and bright. The parking and the separate changing area well away from the parents waiting area all make for a much happier school, so many parents use to complain about the fact there use to be adults in when the children were changing, so now no such complaints! I also prefer the fact that I can now convers with the parents in the waiting room, that really helps parents to talk to me directly, the fact I’m there every Monday, Tuesday and Friday evening really helps me keep in touch with you all!! There have been a couple of occasions when we have had to move the lessons to the dining hall due to parents evening being held in the gym, which has not been ideal, but as it really is only the odd occasion there is no chance of any damage being done to the students, dancing on a non-sprung floor for one or two lessons, for some schools in church hall etc this is the normality, and as ever I thank the parents for their understanding and patience in these circumstances, the teachers now are experienced and professional enough to plan the class around this and under no circumstance would any of the staff teach if it was in any way dangerous , it would be against all their principles and insurance policies. The most important thing in any school are the teachers and the standard of the students dancing here at Rox is so high, this is down to the teaching and the hard work the pupils put in, the students are so happy with their teachers, this will remain no matter where the studios are.

Well done to all the exam candidates this term, such dedication and commitment by all of you , I hope you all get the results you deserve, the list for next terms exams will be on the board tomorrow and the provisional exam dates are RAD Sunday 19th March and the ISTD is Sunday 26th March, so please put them in your diary, the RAD pianist rehearsal will be on Sunday 5th March and the ISTD will be on Saturday 18th March.

Many of you have asked about starting different classes ie Jazz/ Fesival / and Acro, the jazz is perfect for students in Modern classes if you are in grade 3 modern, you would be in Bronze jazz, the classes go back to back which really helps!! The students can come for a free trial and they will love the syllabus , it is so different to the modern style, it really is the best genre!! The students are able to wear any type of unitard/leotard of there choice , there is no uniform!! The silver jazz is for students in grade 4/5 modern and the gold is for grade 6 or inter foundation modern. Again please feel free to come to all these lessons for a free trial, and when the students take the exam they get medals Bronze, Silver and Gold!! The festival classes start a fresh in September so any new students wishing to join need to apply at the end of the summer term, and the costumes the students are wearing for the dance they can wear to the jazz classes as they are stunning!! The junior and intermediate Acro classes are both full at the moment , but we do have a waiting list, so as soon as a place becomes available I will let all those waiting know. There are a few places left on the senior class on a Tuesday evening.
